This is coming after the northern governors met on Monday, which is on the 27 of September, 2021, at the Council Chamber of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, with some traditional leaders led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'adu Abubakar, where they condemned the call for zoning by the southern regional state governors, describing it as unlawful.

During the meeting, they also rejected the position of the southern governors on the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) by their states, stressing that their rejection on VAT would create economic hardship and excessive taxation.
But in response to the nullification by the northern governors, Mr Akeredolu, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, during an interview with some groups of journalists, said that the southern governors are resolute on their demand, which means that the demand of the northern governors is unyielding.

Mr Akeredolu, while reacting to the stance of the northern governors, replied that his northern counterparts have just expressed and exercised their rights under the freedom of expression.
The summary of Akeredolu's statement read below:
"They have expressed and indeed, exercised their rights under the freedom of expression. We all know that no one can stop them from expressing themselves."
