Gunmen have killed Rev. Musa Hyok and his two sons in the Ganawuri community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday in Jos.

Alabo said the slain cleric, a priest of the Church of Christ in Nation, was killed on Sunday morning.

”The command has commenced an investigation to unravel those behind the attack,” he said.

Mr Song Moro, the Youth Leader of the community, alleged that the incident was a reprisal attack following the killing of three Fulani youths in the community.

Obi visits Lagos lady stabbed on Election Day

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has paid a visit to Jennifer Efidi, the lady who was stabbed in the face by thugs during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Efidi was stabbed while attempting to cast her vote in the Surulere area of the state.

Obi shared the pictures from his visit via his Twitter handle on Monday.

He wrote, “Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efidi. She was attacked on 25th February in an attempt to stop her from voting, but she stood her ground. Jennifer is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy.

“She is my point of contact with every Nigerian who suffered a similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights and contribute to a new Nigeria. Like many Nigerians, I acknowledge her bravery and resoluteness. Jennifer is a true manifestation of Profiles in courage for a new Nigeria.”

Alleged murder: Kano court grants Doguwa bail

A Federal High Court in Kano has granted bail to Alhassan Ado Doguwa, majority leader of the House of Representatives.

Following widespread violence that led to deaths and arson in the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano during last week’s election, the police had arraigned Doguwa before a Magistrate’s Court on charges of arson and murder.

The lawmaker was arraigned for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, arson and illegal possession of firearms among others.

But the counsel for the accused, Nureini Jimoh (SAN), applied for an exparte order before Justice Muhammad Nasir Yunusa to grant the accused bail based on alleged infringement of his fundamental human rights and absence of jurisdiction by the Magistrate’s Court that had remanded the accused.

Jimoh contended that since the accused was charged with culpable homicide and illegal possession of firearms, a Magistrate’s Court lacked jurisdictional power to remand Doguwa.

Upon hearing the application, Justice Yunusa granted him bail with the condition that the suspect must provide two sureties, one of which shall be a first-class traditional ruler while the other must be a permanent secretary at the federal or state civil service.

The Delta State Government on Monday approved 65 years as a new retirement age for teachers in the public service of the state.

The teachers will henceforth retire at the attainment of 40 years of service or 65 years of age.

The same is applicable to the non-academic staff of the state-owned Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this shortly after the State Executive Council meeting in Asaba.

He said the executive council gave the approval to enable the teachers and the tertiary institutions’ workers to contribute more to nation-building.
