It could be recalled that some prominent leaders and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have, unanimously, set up a Zoning Committee that will assist to solve the problems plaguing the party on the most effective zoning formula that can lead the party through a crisis-free National Convention.

Interestingly, the decision of the Zoning Committee that is being headed by the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is said to have hit deadlock.
It was learnt that a group, Maintain the Status Quo Group, being led by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is agitating for the zoning of national chairmanship position of the opposition party to the South while another group, Move Around Group, being led by former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, is demanding for the zoning of presidential ticket to the South while the North has the national chairmanship position of the opposition party.
Considerably, the overall decision of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the zoning issues may later favor three geopolitical zones, the most.
Wonderfully, the presidential or vice presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party may be, considerably, micro-zoned to either Southeast or North-Central. It is important to remember that none of these geopolitical zones has produced democratically elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, or even, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), since 1999.
Also, the national Chairmanship position of the party may be, interestingly, micro-zoned to the Southwest geopolitical zone while the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party may be thrown open to all geopolitical zones across the Federation.
Unfortunately, it could be recalled that Southwest has never produced national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since it was formed in 1998.
