Ohanaeze Ndigbo Denies Calling Yoruba People ‘Political Rascal’ Over Lagos Electoral Violence

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has debunked the reports making the rounds that Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR (Ahaejiagamba), the Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, called the Yoruba people ‘political rascals.

The group debunked the news, describing it as a “typical falsehood which was fabricated by social media entrepreneurs, decorated with wings, expanded with venoms, injected with ethnic nuances and propelled to fly to various corners, fronts and heights in order to bring about ethnic-mistrust between the age-long partners in economic, religious, cultural and social development of the nation”.

This was made known by Dr Alex Ogbonnia, who is the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s National Publicity Secretary on Sunday, the 26th of March, 2023 in Awka, Anambra State.

He said that Chief Iwuanyanwu made this known at the event to celebrate one year in office of Anambra State governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. He drew the attention of the audience and the general public to the fact that there is no fight or quarrel between the Yoruba people and the Ndigbo. He described the Yorubas as a ‘friendly group of people.

He stated that there is no war between the Igbo and the Yoruba people, but those who recently attacked Ndigbo in Lagos are rascals.

The statement read that this was what Chief Iwuanuanwu said, but has been mischievously twisted to insinuate that the Yoruba people are political rascals and that the Ndigbo will fight them. This was done by people who want to create conflicts between the Yorubas and the Igbos.

“At any time in history, there is often a tug of war between two major groups; mostly the good people with conscience on one hand and the devious insidious minds on the other. However, the moral force of the godly will always countervail the unconscionable,” the statement read in part.
