A lot of reactions have trailed a recent video shared by the official spokesperson of the Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign council, Senator Dino Melaye, accusing the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike of trying to compromise the Nigerian army with financial inducements.
The video showed an Army Officer stating in his address that Governor Wike who seemed double faced (patronizing officers to help him rig elections and still criticising them), obviously underestimated the force's commitment to being professionally responsible in the discharge of their constitutional roles during the election.
He said, "Equally of great concern is the devilish attempt by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike to compromise security agencies particularly those of 6th Division Nigerian Army with hefty financial inducements to help him in his illegitimate act of thwarting the free and fair electoral process to his favour, while at the same time, accusing the Nigerian Army of being biased daily. Apparently, Gov Wike must have underestimated the commitment of Army to the discharge of its duties."
Meanwhile, reactions to the video identified it as an old statement reported to have been made by the Army in 2019. Some of the reactions read thus:
