Why The Questions Raised By Igbokwe Over Insecurity In Southeastern Nigeria Should Not Be Overlooked

The growing rate of Insecurity in the Southeastern Nigeria has gradually become a major source of concern for everyone. At the moment, incessant killings have now become the order of the day, and if nothing is done about it, things may get out of hand in the region.

About three days ago, Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late Dora Akunyili was murdered in cold blood by unknown gunmen at Onitsha while on his way to Enugu. His death was unprecedented and quite unfortunate but it could have easily be avoided if the Security architecture of the state was very functional.

All state governors in the South East should take this issue of insecurity very seriously. We all know what is happening in the northern Nigeria today as well as the drastic effect it is having on their economy. If these unnecessary killings continue, even the ordinary Nigerian would not be safe in the South East.

However, as a result of the constant killings in the South East, Joe Igbokwe who happens to be the special Adviser to the Lagos state governor on Drainage and Water Resources, took to his official Facebook page and raised two questions which should not be overlooked.

Joe Igbokwe who appeared pained and worried, raised the following questions;

•.how many of us will go down in the south east before we receive common sense?

• how many of us will be killed before we get understanding in the South-East?

These two questions raised by Joe Igbokwe deserves every attention it can get and must not be overlooked. The rate of killings in the south East is becoming too alarming. Every now and then, we hear about reports of assasinations from different states in the south east. For a while, the activities of unknown gunmen in the region reduced drastically but at the moment, it seems they have resumed their evil ways.

I want to use this opportunity to call on every relevant authorities in the region to put in their best and ensure that peace returns back to the region. Residents should also be on the alert and should not hesitate to report to the necessary Authorities if they suspect any thing that can bring harm to the people.
