Wike's Infrastructural Achievements Must Not Be Lauded Alone, Other Governors Need To Learn From it.

Nigeria's nascent democracy has witnessed improvement over time. A laudable infrastructural revolution which has been dutifully delivered by Governor Nyesom Wike in his home state has been the talk of the town. Earlier today, Senate Chief Whip Orji Kalu commended Governor Wike for this feat in an award ceremony where the governor was awarded as The Sun Man of the Year.

As reported by the The Nation, Kalu made the commendation at the 2020 Sun Newspaper Award Ceremony at Eko Hotel, Lagos State. The event was held on Sunday, 17 October 2021. According to his statement, he said: “I have taken official and unguided tours of projects up to Opobo Town. It is quite amazing that Governor Wike is doing so much. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the truth must be told that Governor Wike is doing well."

What has Wike achieved? Governor Wike has initiated projects such as flyovers, roads, hospitals and Real Madrid Academy, which are legacy projects that will stand the test of time and enhance the socio-economic transformation of the state. The lingering VAT issue which his government won against the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is one of Wike's achievements.

To strengthen our democracy, it is important that Wike's achievements are not just commended but also be emulated and replicated by other state governors in their various states. If Nigerian politicians begin coordinated development of their regions, then collectively the nation's economy would boom.

Also, Nigerian governors need to learn Wike's apolitical approach to governance and speak truth to power without any form of bias. This is the 21st century, for the country to develop, emulating good deeds of other governors by their colleagues is instrumental to a better Nigeria.

Without mincing words, it would be more beneficial if other state governors borrowed a leaf from Wike's infrastructural legacies for the better of the country.
