Our administration will not be rosy in the beginning - Shettima tells Nigerians

Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima has expressed concerns about the challenging starting point for the incoming administration led by Bola Tinubu. Speaking at the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Public Lecture, Shettima, the former Governor of Borno State, highlighted two major issues hindering the national economy. In his exact words he said,

"The starting point might not be rosy, let me be very honest with you. The oil subsidy has become an albatross around our necks. The multiple exchange rates system is a drain on the national economy and creates a dual economic system".

Shettima first addressed the issue of oil subsidy, describing it as an "albatross around our necks." The subsidy, which has been a long-standing burden on the government, poses a significant challenge for the new administration. Additionally, he criticized the multiple exchange rates system, stating that it not only drains the national economy but also creates a dual economic system.

The Vice President-elect emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the incoming administration does not have the luxury of time. Despite the initial challenges, Shettima expressed optimism that the decisions taken by the new administration will eventually be appreciated and celebrated by Nigerians.

As the nation prepares for a transition of power, these remarks shed light on the formidable obstacles that lie ahead for the incoming administration. While acknowledging the difficulties, Shettima's words also carry a message of hope, suggesting that the government's decisions will pave the way for a brighter future.
