Dr. Kayode Fayemi is the executive governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of Nigeria's governor's forum. As the Chairman governors forum, Fayemi has the responsibility of traveling to Abuja and other States frequently as needs may arise, to be able to achieve the objectives of the forum. These journeys might be at the expense of the state, However, this idea did not augur well with the Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Punch reported, "that Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, urged the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to spend more time at home and be more prudent with state resources." Sen. Babafemi Ojudu might be right because of the following reasons:
1. Governance: for a governor to be able to deliver the dividend of democracy to his people, he or she must devote substantial time to oversee the activities of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, in situations where the governor is not always on the seat, his appointees might also abandon the official assignments, this might hurt governance. Senator Babafemi lamented that governor Fayemi's constant absence from the state is affecting APC's chances of winning subsequent elections in Ekiti State.
2. Economy: Air transportation is very expensive in Nigeria, governors and top political echelons usually travel by Air. The money going on these journeys could be used to improve the economy of the state as cited by Senator Babafemi Ojudu. Furthermore, he mentioned some bad roads in Ekiti state that requires urgent attention from Governor Fayemi. Senator Babafemi might be right because Financial prudent is a virtue that everyone must always strive to have.
