Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Punch on Tuesday, 14th of March 2023, the National Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress, Felix Morka, has explained that nobody, except the Nigerian President, has the power to hire and fire the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It would be recalled that some top members in the APC have been knocking Godwin Emefiele over the new naira policy he introduced some months which created a lot of inconveniences for Nigerians. While some people have been calling for the sack of the Apex Bank Governor, President Muhammadu Buhari has made no move towards that direction.
Felix Morka, who spoke extensively on the cash crunch and the role of the President in hiring and firing the Governor of the Central Bank, said that the All Progressives Congress has no power whatsoever to sack Emefiele because only the Nigerian President can do so.
In his words, he said: “Emefiele was hired by the president and he serves at the pleasure of the president. So no one person or a group of persons even in the party has the authority to hire and fire the CBN governor. That is the exclusive prerogative of the president."
“The president has its power as constituted by law and under the CBN Act as well. As I earlier said, everything concerning the hiring and firing of the CBN governor rests with the president. The position of the party on that is irrelevant. He makes the decision as he chooses.”
