OPINION: Why Fintiri Is Wrong That Only President From The North-East Will End Insurgency In Nigeria

As the 2023 presidential election draw nearer everyday, a lot of people have been commenting on the regional zone to produce the next president, as a guide to let Nigerians know the appropriate person to vote for in order not to regret choosing a wrong representative.

The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has said that electing a President from the North-East will bring an end to the insurgency being witnessed in different parts of the country.

Fintiri, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Maxwell Gidado, made this known at the 2021 North-East Star Magazine Awards, where he was honoured as the Governor of the year.

The Governor, during the occasion, disclosed that the issue of insecurity would end within the first term of the presidency of any candidate of the North-East extraction, but I totally disagree with his insight.

In my opinion, I disagree with the Governor's thought because the resolution to Nigeria's crisis depends on the collaborative efforts of the leadership of the country. The reason why Nigeria's crisis is not yet resolved is because of the deformation of our leaders.

In view, it could be resolved that Mr Fintiri's insight is wrong because it may be passing a message that those terrorising Nigeria wants Presidency to be shifted to the North-East in order for Nigeria's crisis to be resolved but that is not true. If Presidency decides to put an end to insecurity today, it will totally be resolved but we are lacking the spirit of unity among the various sectors of leadership.
