Ahead of the forthcoming general election, some of the Governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to express confidence that the party, will win the poll and return to power in 2023. However, considering the array of internal problems the opposition party has faced in recent times, and the consequent growth in strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC; are these governors just being overconfident or do they have reasons for their conviction?
Below is a list of these governors who believe PDP will return to power in 2023 and why.
The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike reportedly declared recently that the opposition PDP will takeover Nigeria in the 2023 general election, noting that the Governors under the party were working in unison and with a lot of commitment to make this happen. However, as things stand, will this unity and commitment be enough to checkmate the ruling APC in the 2023 general poll? Surely, judging from his statements, Wike is confident of the party's victory at the poll.
2. Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
The chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum and Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal reportedly declared earlier in the year that the party will return to power in 2023, noting that PDP was determined to rescue Nigeria. Like Wike, Tambuwal also hinted at the commitment of the governors and leaders of the party for his conviction.
3. Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom
In a recent Daily Post news report, the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom declared that the PDP was ready to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the 2023 general election. To him, the party has learnt from its past mistakes and the membership was working in a united front. Notably, the Governor hold the believe that PDP will win the general poll, and takeover the leadership of the country in 2023.
One question however, is; has the opposition PDP showed the commitment, determination and unity of purpose in recent time to suggest, it can win the poll against APC?
