In the light of this, the main opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has zoned the National Chairmanship position of the party to the North.
Following the zoning of the national chairmanship of PDP to the North by the PDP Zoning Committee under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State where c has also been ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, northern members of the opposition party seem to have micro-zoned the national chairmanship position to the North Central geopolitical zone.
Considerably, there are two prominent members of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from north central geopolitical zone who are worth the position of national chairman of the opposition party but have, logically, declared their interests against the position.
One, as a former President of the Senate and the Head of PDP Peace Committee for the forthcoming national convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator David Mark is surely a formidable and experienced member of the opposition party from the north central region who can, reliably, vie for the position of National Chairman of the party. Unfortunately, he has distanced himself from anything that has to do with the national chairmanship position of the opposition party.

Besides, Senator David Mark is a gentle, cool, calm and collected politician who is, actually, having no to little political grudge against any members of the opposition party. His experience and gentleness could be considered as great asset that may assist PDP, if he becomes the national chairman of the party.
A source close to Senator David Mark, confided to the NATION that "David Mark is not interested in the chairmanship position of the party. What he wants is the position of Board of Trustee (BoT) chairman.
Secondly, former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki is another prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from North Central who, considerably, has the political capacity to lead the opposition party through the Office of the National Chairman. However, Senator Bukola Saraki has dissociated himself from anything that has to do with the PDP national chairmanship ambition.
