Olanipekun and forty-nine other lawyers to defend Tinubu against Obi and Atiku

Buoyed by patriotism and the need to protect the sanctity of the ballot, about fifty Senior Advocates have declared an interest to defend the mandate of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a figure that may well increase in the next few days.

Wole Olanipekun, legal icon and one-time NBA President, will lead about forty-nine other lawyers to defend the victory of the President-elect at the presidential election tribunal to prevail over his arch contenders, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

Tinubu, the APC’s standard bearer had emerged as the ‘winner’ of the presidential election of the 25th of February 2023, with 8,794,726 votes to have beaten Atiku (6,984,520) and Obi (6,101,533) to the second and third positions respectively.

After presenting the Certificate of Return in the last week, Obi and Atiku argued the elections were marred with deficiencies, vowing to take grievances to court, and have since sought the Tribunal’s leave to inspect the election materials.

The Tinubu legal team, today in Lagos, are to hold their first meeting, on public domain issues which may be drafted into the claims of PDP and LP, with indications some PDP governors may also join in the case to attest to fair polls in their areas.

Inquiries show some of the fifty lawyers did opt for free service to actualise Tinubu’s mandate, with a few of them joining on the conviction that the poll was the “freest and fairest” in the country’s history with large-scale upsets.

Some of the ‘men’ in defence of Tinubu are Akin Olujimi,  Yusuf Ali, Lateef Fagbemi, H. M. Liman, A.U. Mustapha, Ahmed Raji, Babatunde Ogala, Abiodun Owonikoko, Kemi Pinheiro, Muiz Banire, Niyi Akintola, Taiwo Osipitan, amongst others.
