The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is a major separatist group in Nigeria that has so much heightened up the level of its agitation in a discouraging manner. Considering the fact that the main purpose of their agitation is to divide Nigeria and dominate its South East region, the government has made commitments to repel the group and maintain unity in the country.
Recently, Ken Nnamani who was the former Senate President of Nigeria from 2005 to 2007 has openly called on his fellow Igbos to stop Biafra agitation and embrace unity in Nigeria. While giving this encouragement, he made reference to certain things he witnessed during the 1967 Biafran war. As gathered from a report by NaijaNews, Ken revealed that he witnessed how lots of people, including students of Nsukka died and also, the death of young & bright people who were sources of happiness to their parents and communities.
Having expressed how unpleasant it was to experience such things, here are some of the words of advice he unleashed in his statements that Igbos should seriously take note of.
PEOPLE THAT CALL FOR WAR ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO BE WIPED OUT
It is imperative for Biafra agitators to take note of this statement about war. It is one thing to call for war and it is another thing to survive its consequences. Ken Nnamani who is also an Igbo man, has made a point from what happened in 1967 civil war. Biafra agitators should not forget how millions of lives were lost in the face of war. Hence, there should be an end to the agitation at this time.
IF NIGERIA IS PROPERLY ORGANIZED, IGBOS WILL THRIVE WELL
This is indeed an important statement for Biafra agitators to know that a time is coming when Nigeria will become a developed nation. Igbos should have faith that they will surely thrive in all their endeavors if they remain in Nigeria till that time comes.
IGBOS STAND TO BENEFIT MOST IF THERE IS PEACE
Ken has assured Igbos that they will benefit more from Nigeria if they should allow peace to reign in the country. Biafra agitators should note this and withdraw from their agitation.
WAR IS NOT THE SOLUTION
Indeed, people who have had the experiences of war will concur to the fact that war has not solved any problem in history. There is no gain but pains in times war. On this note, Biafra agitators should be mindful of this fact and avoid every action that can result to war.
