The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel had gone emotional during the burial ceremony of the late Udo Ekpenyong who, until his death, was the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State People's Democratic Party. The governor shed tears of pains and heartfelt emotions at the burial ground on Friday, 26th Match 2021 at Ikot Oku Usung Ukanafun Local Government, the home town of the deceased party chairman.
While addressing the crowd at the funeral arena, the governor mentioned that the event had been the heaviest moment he had ever addressed people in his life. The governor added that even during his mother's funeral, he had never felt in such way.
"This is one of the most difficult and heaviest moments I have been called upon to hold a microphone since I was born. I am feeling heavier today than the way I felt the day I interred my mother. It's much heavier for me..", the governor lamented.
The governor further consoled the people of Akwa Ibom and the bereaved family in particular by quoting the book of Deuteronomy 32:43 as he said: "Rejoice O ye nations, with his peoples: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful onto his land and his people", the governor quoted.
The death of Hon Udom Ekpenyong is particularly very painful to the governor in the sense that late Mr Ekpenyong only served as the PDP Chairman in Akwa Ibom State for just about five months before his death. The governor described the 64-year-old late party chairman as 'one of the most loyal and worthy lieutenants in his cabinet' who was about taking the People's Democratic Party to another higher level in Akwa Ibom State.
