Nigeria had a blissful Independence Day Celebration with lots of congratulatory messages coming from dignitaries within and outside the country. They all wished Nigeria more success and outstanding achievements in its endeavors.
However, governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State is one of elites within the country whose Independence Day Speech was resounding and full of words of advice to his people. He expressed displeasure over the use of funds that could be utilized for Nigeria's development in fighting insecurity issues that has spread out within the country. While making reference to this, he made some key statements that could be naturally interpreted as his words of advice to Igbos at large and more especially, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Here are two major points he made that could be his advice to IPOB.
First, he reinterated that Igbos stand to benefit more in united Nigeria. This piece of advice indirectly condemns the secession agenda of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). It is an honest call for them to embrace unity and live as one Nigeria. Apart from the massive infrastructures in the South East such as the construction of the second Niger Bridge, Igbos have benefitted massively from the NPOWER initiative from the present administration. The recent road commissioning that drew the presence of President Buhari in Imo State, is another good consideration to make. Also, the progressive move on Igbo presidency could be another benefit for the Igbos in time to come.
Secondly, he clearly noted that Igbos cannot afford to suffer in their own country by their own actions and inaction. The recent actions of IPOB with regards to enforcing self made orders may have some contributions to the suffering of the Igbos. Hence, this clearly advises IPOB to put an end to violence and subject themselves to the government of the federal republic of Nigeria.
