As the latest foreign trip embarked upon by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to occupy the front burner of public debate, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Niyi Akinsiju has tackled an ARISE TV presenter, Charles Aniagolu over the latter's claim that the President-elect may have jetted out of the country for medical attention.
Recall that on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the country's media space was abuzz with a press statement from Tinubu's media aide, Tunde Rahman, announcing that the President-elect has jetted out of Nigeria to Europe on a 'working visit'.
However, while appearing on ARISE TV's 'Prime Time' program on Thursday night, Akinsiju, who was a key member of the Media Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, was asked by Mr. Aniagolu to react to reports from several sections of the country alleging that the President-elect has traveled to France for urgent medical attention. The TV anchor also urged the party chieftain to list the names of the European countries where Tinubu is expected to meet with potential foreign investors as was claimed by the press statement.
Quite interestingly, the question did not go down well with Mr. Akinsiju who described the claims as false and illogical. He then went on to accuse Aniagolu of discarding the official statement from the APC on the reason for Tinubu's trip to Europe, preferring instead to make speculation without facts.
He said; "This claim is illogical and has no root in facts. You have an official statement issued by us and yet you choose to make a contrary position. Okay, where are the facts on the position you have taken? You need to bring out clear facts. Where is the doctor's report you have obtained to show that he (Tinubu) traveled for medical treatment?
But I feel that once a statement was issued, a statement of trust from an institution that is the office of the President-elect, that should be enough. But if you are going to take a pedantic position, then where are the facts? Because what you have just said to me is more or less speculation and mere conjectures".
However, when pressed by his host to reveal the exact location in Europe where Tinubu jetted out to, the APC chieftain insisted that the President-elect only mentioned that he would be going to Europe but did not list the countries he would visit.
