Following the removal from office of the immediate past Governor of Imo State; Rt. Hon. Emeka Nkem Ihedioha by the Supreme Court, His Excellency Gov. Hope Uzodimma was quickly sworn in as the Governor of Imo State.

Ever since, Gov. Hope Uzodimma has been working tirelessly to see that eastern governors join him in the APC Camp and has positioned himself as the leader of the APC in the zone been the first Governor of the APC extraction.

Recently, the Governor of Ebonyi State; His Excellency, Gov. Engr. Dave Umahi, MNSE defected from PDP to the ruling APC. This singular act got a lot of attention and criticism from the political world. Together with him were his loyalists and appointees.

Currently, there are 2 PDP Governors; Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD of Abia State and Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. Also, there are two APC Governors; Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state. While Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State is of the APGA extraction.
