Before now, the PDP had zoned its National Chairman to South (South West), National Secretary to North while the other key posts were shared between the two regions as determined by the committee. Based on that initial arrangement, it would have meant that the North would get the presidential ticket ahead of 2023. But, it seemed that based on some critical political calculations, that initial arrangement did not go down well with some influential PDP Governors from the South. That was why something happened.
How Wike and three other PDP Governor from the South made the change happen
Politics is a game of number. It can also favour those who understand the strategy of using dialogue to convince others. Most of the time, those that want to push an idea would have met, planned it, agreed and then come to the larger meeting to make the idea get adopted or voted for. That was what Governor Nyesom Wike and three other influential PDP Governors from the South did.

The the four Governors that made it happen were: Governor Wike (Rivers State), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Governor Godwin Obaseki (Edo State) and Governor Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom State). They would have met, discussed, planned how to present the idea and the arguments to use to back it up before the larger house where all the PDP Governors would meet to decide the zoning arrangement.

What happened on the D-Day
Eventually, all the PDP Governors met to make a final decision on the zoning arrangement that the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led committee was working on. According to a report by The Punch, three options were put forward by Governor Darius Ishaku (Taraba State). The options were: to retain the current executives led by Prince Uche Secondus, swap positions between North and South while the third option was to sack all the current executives and throw all the positions open.

The stage was open for all. Makinde led the argument in support of the second option. That is, to swap position between the North and South. He was backed by Wike. Obaseki also backed it. Finally, Emmanuel threw his weight behind the first three Governors that supported the swap. In all these, Wike and the three other Governors adduced good arguments in favour of swapping posts between the two regions. At last, the had their way as other many others voted in support of that when it was subjected to voting. With this arrangement, North would produce the PDP National Chairman while South would get the presidential ticket of the party amid claims that Wike is nursing presidential ambition in 2023.
