2023: Two Major Indications Why Power Might Shift To The South

As Nigerians look forward to the 2023 general elections, tensions are high as people are skeptical and anxious to know whether power will remain in the north or shift to the South.

The shifting of power from any region of the country can either be according to the constitution or the people's choice at the polls. However, the Nigerian constitution does not make room for zoning of the nation's presidency.

The call by the Southern governors for power to shift to the South received a massive setback, as the northern governors reject it, stating clearly that it is unconstitutional.

To this effect, we shall be looking at two major indications that might support or aid the shifting or power to the South.

 1. Political Parties.

As it stands, only political parties in the country can decide to zone their presidential ticket to any part of the country. If this should happen and major political parties zone their tickets to the South, then we might have power shifted to the South.

 2. PDP's NEC Meeting Outcome.

Recall that on Thursday, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) after their NEC meeting made it known to newsmen that the party decided to open its ticket to every region of the country.

This means that if a southern candidate wins its primaries, he/she automatically becomes the party's flag bearer.

With this revelation by the PDP, and being one of the strongest parties in the country, any southerner that might be able to win its primaries might have a bigger chance of winning the election.

Please, you are welcome to drop your opinion below if you think otherwise. Thanks.
