Don’t Expect Magical Power Supply- Minister

Nigerians have been warned not to expect miracles when it comes to getting enough electricity.

During his official resumption of duties in Abuja yesterday, Abubakar Aliyu, the new Minister of Power, remarked, "No, I am not a magician, but I am here to add value to what is being done."

He challenged the leaders of parastatals and agencies reporting to him to translate their titles into assurances that civilians would have a consistent supply of electricity.

The minister urged the ministry's personnel to be committed to the tasks ahead, stressing that he is ready to assist them in completing their tasks.

"I like good character and honesty, since I have never lied and will not want anyone to do that to me," he said, requesting cooperation to help him and the rest of the team succeed.

Earlier, Otun Emmanuel, the ministry's Permanent Secretary, advised everyone that the staff and relevant agencies have been working together to fulfill President Muhammadu Buhari's mandate by ensuring the availability and affordability of electricity throughout the nation.

He told the minister that they would work together and double up on their efforts to make his stay worthwhile.
