A group known as the Igbo Youths for Equity, has said the arrest of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is an insult and affront to the IgbosThey described the EFCC as a tool used for political witch-hunts.
The statement was made by the spokesperson of the group, Captain Izundu Marcel, he said they are worried over “attempts by some highly placed politicians from outside Igboland to frustrate the Igbo presidency agenda.”
He then said the Igbos will not stay silent while some will continue to “single out our key leaders for humiliation”.
According to the group, “We are concerned that over the last two years, there seems to have been deliberate attempts by a group of political hawks from outside Igboland to humiliate and demoralize key leaders from Igboland whom they consider as threats to their ambition to continue denying the Igbos their right to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023”.
Over 1,000 Supporters Join PDP.
The All Progressives Congress, APC has suffered a major setback as the 2019 Delta State House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for Burutu constituency II, Chief Peres Oloye and the 2019 general APC Coordinator and present Publicity Secretary of the party in Delta South Senatorial District, Mr Agodi Agbor led over 1,000 of their supporters to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Declaring for the PDP at Tuomo town in Burutu Local Government Area of the State at a well-attended meeting of the PDP, Oloye surrendered his broom, the symbol of the APC to the leadership of the PDP, saying they were pioneer members of the PDP before they left for the APC in 2018.
Buhari mourns renowned music producer, Chris Ajilo.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the entertainment industry, over the passing of renowned music producer, Chris Ajilo Buhari also condoled with musicians and producers, over the passing of the renowned music instrumentalist and instructor.
Ajilo was the band leader of the National Orchestra for Nigeria’s independence in 1960.
In a condolence message by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, the president commiserated with family, friends and professional colleagues of the highly celebrated artiste.
Buhari noted that Ajilo’s talent completely altered the music industry in Nigeria, giving it more depth, meaning and appeal, as he inspired a genre that was accepted across class, age and creed.
Gunmen shoot three policemen dead in Ebonyi.
No fewer than three policemen were on Wednesday night shot dead by gunmen in Ebonyi State, The PUNCH has learnt.
The unknown assailants reportedly attacked the victims at 7pm at Onuebonyi/Nwezenyi Junction, in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state, while on duty, on Wednesday.
The unknown assailants, it was gathered, wore mourning attires and were said to have operated with two Sienna buses and others, with which they escaped from the scene of the incident, after they attacked the policemen.
The Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the incident, on Thursday.
The Police Public Relations in the state, DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, however, said some of the assailants equally sustained injuries, from gunshots from the policewomen.
PDP lacks governance option credentials – APC.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacks the credentials to be considered as a governance option.
Reacting to PDP statement that APC led administration “misrule” was responsible for Twitter’s decision to cite its African operations in Ghana, Secretary of the Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the governing party, Senator John James Akpan udoedehe said as Africa’s biggest economy, Nigeria remains a top onvestment destination.
APC said the opposition statement was a mockery of the country and its citizens over the decision of a private concern, whose right to cite operational base is an exclusive preserve.
Akpan udoedehe, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday said: “For the PDP that mocks the country and its citizens over what it celebrates as missed “business prospects”, such political party does not mean well for the country and should definitely not be considered as a governance option.”
Another jailbreak in Ubiaja aborted.
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, said it foiled a jailbreak attempt by inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facility, Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area.
Mr Richard Ogbebor, the public relations officer (PRO) of the command in a statement in Benin disclosed that the attempted jailbreak occurred from 15:00 hours to 17:00 hours on Wednesday.
Ogbebor explained that the corps received a distress call and subsequently mobilised its personnel to the facility.
The NSCDC team was led by Mr Samuel Ogbeide, an Assistant Superintendent of Corps 1,
Ogbebor said that on getting to the facility, it was discovered that the inmates had broken out from their cells and were already engaging the correctional officers in a fight.
He disclosed that in a bid to bring the development under control some of the officers sustained different degrees of injury.
He further said that, however, with assistance from the personnel from the Nigerian Army, 4th Brigade, and the Edo Command, Nigerian Police Force, the inmates were eventually overpowered and taken back to their cells.
