The presidential Lodge is the former presidential palace located at the Marina in Lagos, Nigeria. This house was design and constructed by the British colonial. In 1976, General Murtala Muhammed, first took the decision to relocate the Federal Capital from Lagos to a more central location. President Ibrahim Babangida, took commenced construction of a new presidential residence in 1985 and in 1991, the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, was completed, he was the first president to occupy the Aso Rock Villa.
So, before the Aso RocK Presidential Villa, the Presidential Lodge, located at the Marina in Lagos, is the former presidential palace. The Federal Government of Nigeria, has officially handed over the Presidential Lodge, Marina to Lagos state government. The edifice built before Independence in 1960, had housed several Military Head of States and Presidents.
The Aso Rock Villa is the most protected presidential state house in Africa. The villa is under protection of the Presidential Guard Brigade.
