The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a suit asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu from replacing Senator Kashim Shettima as its presidential candidate.
According to vanguard, the APC and its standard bearer have been vilified by various groups and individuals over the Muslim-Muslim ticket (first with Kabiru Masari and then with Shettima).
Now Nigeria's main opposition party, the PDP, is asking the court to disqualify Tinubu from contesting the 2023 elections along with his previous opponent Masari.
The PDP is also basing its argument on the fact that Nigerian law does not recognise the term "seat holder".
Tinubu's legal team responded that they were aware of the case but said the court had not sent them notice.
"Yes, I am aware (of the case). However, we have not received any court notice." When asked to confirm that he had rendered services, he repeated, "They have not done so," Babatunde Ogala (SAN), head of the legal department of Tinubu's campaign organisation, told reporters.
