How Olujimi is silently nursing her 2022 governorship ambition in Ekiti

When it comes to being bold, active and passionate towards achieving a set down goal, these attributes perfectly describe Senator Abiodun Christine Olujimi, the only female senator from Ekiti State.

No doubt, leaving the media industry after working in both top broadcast and print media industry like Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Nigerian Tribune had helped her develop a thick skin before she ventured into the political world.

She had been a member of two political parties before she made the wisest decision of joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2002, where she has been reaping bountifully since then.

At first, she was appointed as a special assistant to the then governor of Ekiti State before she contested and won a Federal House of Assembly seat in 2003 and in 2005, she luckily won a joint ticket with the former governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose and automatically became the Deputy Governor of the state, still under the PDP umbrella.

Meanwhile, Olujimi didn't stop her ambition at being a Deputy Governor, she contested and won the Ekiti South Senatorial seat in 2015, just after she had served in various capacities at both state and national levels during Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

In 2019, she lost her first political battle, when she lost the Ekiti South senatorial election to Dayo Adeyeye of APC but got returned by the Appeal Court, which ordered the sacking of Dayo Adeyeye from the red chamber.

Meanwhile, since she returned to the senate, Olujimi has stated nursing her gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, knowing that the incumbent Governor, Kayode Fayemi would leave the post in 2022.

In order to prepare for the battle ahead, here are the few steps Olujimi has taken in preparation for the Ekiti 2022 gubernatorial election.

Battle for PDP leadership in Ekiti

In order to ensure she achieves her aim and has a smooth ride in 2022 guber election in Ekiti, Senator Olujimi is currently in a fierce battle with the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose for the leadership of their party, PDP in the state.

Olujimi want to ensure she installs her loyalists as party executives in the state and Fayose on the other hand is not ready to leave the party structure for her and that's why they both had parallel congresses in the state in March.

It would be recalled that Fayose and Olujimi have been in a long-time rivalry and both of them are not ready to sheathe their swords to work harmoniously together for the betterment of the party in the state.

Up till now, the battle for the leadership of PDP is still going on and it is unsure of who among Fayose and Olujimi would eventually win. If Olujimi wins the battle, it means she won't have any problem in getting the party's ticket to achieve her gubernatorial ambition in 2022.

Romance with opposition party

Some people are of the opinion that the executive governor of Ekiti State, governor Kayode Fayemi has found a new bride in senator Abiodun Olujimi and that's not far from the fact that there recently exists a close relationship between the duo.

Even though Olujimi is in PDP, she has never failed to embrace the people of the opposition party, the APC members in the state, which some people noted she is doing because of her gubernatorial election. Olujimi recently gave palliatives to members of APC in the state to cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

With her romance with the opposition party, it is obvious the woman is trying all possible ways to realise her gubernatorial ambition in the state.

Olujimi is also said to be extremely generous to people in the state for now, giving both materials and financial succour to many people in the state.

Do you think Olujimi can achieve her ambition and be the first female governor in Ekiti?
