Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the PDP has zoned the position of the chairmanship of the party to the north. The NEC has also endorsed the decision of the zoning committee to swapped the positions of the current National Working Committee (NWC) between north and south.
Mr Iyorchia Ayu was among the founding members of the PDP, particularly since it started its struggle of G18 under the control of pure northern members, before it turned out to be G34 as a reflection of national outlook.
He hailed from Benue state, in the North Central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. He served as senate president from 1992 to 1993.
