After several weeks of back and forth, legal and political fireworks, the main opposition party Peoples Democratic Party has finally succeeded to get rid of its former National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus.
Now the party is focused on its October convention where a new National Working Committee is expected to emerge. The question among party faithful and observers is who is likely to emerge as the new Chairman?

And one South-West candidate that is highly favoured to emerge as the next PDP Chairman is Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The former Osun State Governor and a party chieftain are highly favoured because of his experience in politics. He is also said to be the handpicked candidate of PDP’s former Governors and ex-ministers, who have since constituted themselves into a powerful pressure group within the party.
Another major reason why Oyinlola is considered a leading candidate is because of the condition set by the PDP Governors Forum. The forum has insisted that the next PDP National Chairman should emerge from a state that is not controlled by PDP.
This is to avoid the kind of political conflict that took place between River State Governor Nyesom Wike and Secondus which stagnated the party for months.

Meanwhile, Oyinlola who is presently the head of PDP"s National Reconciliation Committee, has said that he will be glad to accept the responsibility of being the next PDP Chairman.
So much will be expected from the next PDP Chairman. First of all, he is expected to bring stability to the party politically and most importantly, he will lead the party into the 2023 election against the ruling APC.

Two other politicians are said to also be vying for the same position, they are former PDP Governorship aspirants of Ondo State Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and former National Vice President of PDP Dan Orbih.
According to media sources, Jegede is the candidate of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, while Orbih is backed by River State Governor.
All three camps are expected to square up at the October convention.
Do you think Oyinlola is the right man to lead PDP at this time? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below. And while you are at it, like and share the story so that others can comment too.
