3 PDP Governors Atiku Abubakar Shouldn't Underestimate

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar may not be able to afford overrating three governors of the PDP. The former vice president has not come out to make any declaration for the next presidency. But he may have to be cautious of three key governors of the party. Any of them could be a giant politician to clinch the ticket of the PDP.

The last primary election of the PDP was mainly among three top politicians. Mr. Atiku Abubakar slugged it out with Aminu Tambuwal and Bukola Saraki. However, Atiku has not got what he wants, which is to rule the federal government. He may jostle for the ticket again.

But the Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal may give the former vice president another tough time. The Sokoto State governor is the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, a post that gives him an edge over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Even while he was yet to occupy the PDP governors chairman's seat, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal put up a good struggle for the PDP ticket to the extent that he came second behind Mr. Atiku Abubakar. Then, as the struggle continues for the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should be conscious of the potential politicians including Mr. Aminu Tambuwal unless he (Atiku) doesn't want to try his luck again.

The other governor is Mr. Bala Mohammed. The Bauchi State governor comes from the same geopolitical zone as Mr. Atiku Abubakar. Recall that Mr. Bala Mohammed said that he would consult before he would come out to talk whether he would contest for the PDP ticket or not.

Mr. Mohammed may have a chance or an edge ahead of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. The Bauchi State governor can gather enough support from PDP leaders at the national level. He worked under former President Goodluck Jonathan and he can get support from former ministers including Samuel Ortom. Hence, Atiku shouldn't underrate Bala Mohammed.

It shouldn't be difficult for Atiku Abubakar to understand right now that Nyesom Wike isn't a politician that can be underrated or overlooked when it comes to the struggle for PDP ticket. Wike somehow proved what he is up during the matters involving Uche Secondus.

If Wike supported Uche Secondus, the former national chairman might not lose his seat and office. But Wike's insistence contributed to the removal of the former national chairman. And if Wike could do that, Atiku shouldn't risk overlooking Wike.

And it was clear when Atiku Abubakar himself went to Port Harcourt to reconcile with Nyesom Wike. They both resolved their differences. Atiku must have considered how strategic Mr. Wike is, hence, he moved to reconcile with him. Therefore, Atiku Abubakar may not be able to underrate the Rivers State governor.
