Why we endorsed Umahi for senate presidency, Arewa journalists

The Arewa Journalists’ Forum (AJF) on Thursday endorsed senator-elect Dave Umahi for the position of President of the 10th National Assembly.

The announcement was made by the secretary of the Forum, Abraham Awodi, during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Abuja.

Vanguard report that, In his statement, Awodi said that the decision to endorse Umahi was based on his track record of leadership and his commitment to the development of the country.

He also praised Umahi's goal of a unified Nigeria, saying it was consistent with the AJF's objectives.

"We have thoroughly examined Senator Dave Umahi's leadership abilities, and we are confident that he is the best choice to serve as President of the 10th National Assembly.

His leadership abilities in his native state of Ebonyi and dedication to the advancement of our nation are outstanding.

According to Awodi, "We think he has the vision and the ability to lead the National Assembly in a way that will foster the progress and unity of our country."

Vanguard report that, Onoja Ambassador, the organization's vice president, responded to inquiries from the media by stating that the AJF, which is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and boasts 260 active journalists as members, held extensive public and political stakeholder consultations before making the decision to support Umahi.

Additionally, he denied claims that the endorsement was influenced by any outside factors, insisting that it was solely based on Umahi's eligibility for the position. "We did not make this choice hastily. Before making our decision, we held extensive consultations with the general public, political figures, and other stakeholders, Onoja said.
