Parade protest

Tompolo, Ex-Niger Delta militant leader make his public appearance after six years of hiding.

Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo, Ex-Niger Delta militant leader that led the movement for emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) who in 2015 retired to a quite life after he faced trial for allegedly looting 45.5 million naira.

The former warlord was seen again during the Egbesu festival of the Ijaws, dancing, worshipping and celebrating together with the Ijaws to mark this year Egbesu's festival.

The Egbesu god is the deity of justice and the Ijaws believes that its force, is for their defence and also to fight for any form of injustice done to the Ijaw people.

What sparked people's reaction was the timing at which the former warlord appeared. With the ongoing nationwide protest against bad governance, police brutality and the ill feelings of the Ijaw people about lopsided regulations on mining,

one may beginning to think of another movement by the Niger Delta militants with their former leader were they to pick up arms, it's still not clear and not yet confirmed as to what they're planning to do but time will tell.
