One of the recent developments in the political circuit in Nigeria is the launch of the Lagos State Chapter of Presidential Campaign organised for the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by a body known as South West Agenda For Asiwaju (SWAGA), on Thursday, 7th October, 2021. The launching which was led by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, with other APC stalwarts in the state being in attendance, saw the King of Fuji music, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe Marshal better known as K1 performing live on stage.

And, K1 being the artiste on the band stand was quite expected considering the very close relationship between him and Tinubu. So, no other artiste could have been considered ahead of K1 to take charge of the music and entertainment aspect of the political event. And trust K1, he was in his element while he dished out sonorous tunes to the delight of the numerous politicians in attendance. But in the midst of his entertaining lyrics, there was an important statement K1 kept drumming into the ears of everyone during his electrifying performance.

And, what is the statement? The statement had to do with an open apology that K1 kept tendering, metaphorically, to Nigerians in the South West, the North and the South East. K1 emphasised in his music that, whoever the Tinubu's political movement might have offended in the country should please, find it in their heart to forgive. To quote the Fuji music legend directly, he sang repeatedly in Yoruba that: "Ewe orijin laja, ewe orijin laja o, eni a ba se, eni a ba se k'oforijinwa, ewe orijin laja." And truly, the Tinubu's political movement needed such an apology to proceed from this point, onto their next agenda which is winning the Presidency in 2023.

Because, even within the APC as a political party, a lot of elements are having an axe to grind with Tinubu as a political figure. And, most of the issues the disgruntled elements have against the Jagaban Borgu as Tinubu is also called, emanated from the last general elections in the country during which a number of politicians in the APC, apparently, felt offended by the intervention of Tinubu in certain decisions which consequently affected their individual political ambitions. And, many of them must have been waiting for a pay back time when Tinubu would want to pursue a political ambition too. So, such people needed K1's apology which he offered at the event for Tinubu's movement.

And again, beyond the political class, there are a lot of ordinary Nigerians out there who are not happy with Tinubu because they feel he is part of those who brought Nigeria to its present state. So, they may not be accepting a Presidential ambition from him, unless an apology for whatever must have been done wrong by him, is first tendered to the people, just like K1 did at the event. And thereafter, the people can begin to listen to what a Tinubu's presidency would be offering Nigerians differently from what is currently being experienced.

So, K1 was arguably, in order by using the avenue of his performance to tender that important statement apology on behalf of both Tinubu and his political movement. But then, it is one thing to tender an apology, and it is another thing, entirely, for the apology to be accepted. Hence, it remained to be seen how the apology offered by K1 has feared with the political class, and the general public, as time goes on.
