Rape: Osun State Begins Martial Arts Lessons For Women

As part of its efforts to curtail the increase in gender-based violence in the State, the government of the State of Osun has begun teaching women and children self-defense skills.

Addressing journalists during the Inter-ministerial media briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, the Honorable Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barrister Bukola Olaboopo, said the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs was working with the Osun Sports Council and the National Association of Women in Sports on this project.

The martial workmanship aptitude acquisition, as indicated by the Commissioner, is opened to kids from the age of four years, and to ladies across various ages. 

She stated: "The preparation will be done each end of the week by skilled mentors who are focused on enabling our ladies. It is one of the State Government's endeavors at guaranteeing that there is a decrease of se.xual orientation based savagery, particularly assault. 

"Thus, we need our ladies to have the option to protect themselves and be less powerless against rape assaults", Olaboopo expressed.  

She included that intrigued members will just be required to get the enrolment structure at an insignificant expense of N500 for getting them registered, while every other material and coordinations required will be given by the administration.

Talking on the scenes of the program, Olaboopo said that: "It won't be focused in Osogbo alone, it will be over the state. Above all, we are taking it based on federal Constituencies, after which we will extend it to nearby government territories when we can get more mentors."
