Fulani herdsmen crises have been one of the insecurity issues facing Nigerians as many people have lost their lives and properties because of the violent clashes that usually happen between fulani cattle rearers and people in the local communities.

It took so many years for Southern governors to take the courage to create a law to stop open grazing by fulani cattle rearers with the aim to reduce the killing of innocent citizens in the country by herders.

However, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has shown their displeasure over the ban of open grazing by southern governors and they have given reasons why open grazing should continue.

Below are the 3 good reasons why Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has given to why the National Assembly should stop the enactment of the open-grazing laws by the Southern governors.

1. They Said The Law Would Undermine The Relative Peace And Stability Currently Enjoyed In The Local Communities.

The fulani cattle rearers association has appealed to the national assembly that the banning of open grazing might disrupt the peace that are currently in rural communities where fulani herdsmen take their cattle for grazing.

2. The Association Also Noted That The Anti-Open Grazing Laws Would Destroy Livestock Production And Send Millions Of People Who Depend On The Livestock Value Chain Into Poverty.

They made it known to the public that if the law of open grazing is fully enacted, many people would lose their jobs the whole livestock sector will also be affected in the country.

3. Miyetti Allah also appealed To The National Assembly that ranching as envisaged by many required capital investment and was difficult to sustain, not economical, and it is not small livestock holder-centred.

The reasons they gave is good but might not be acceptable by people in south. In my opinion, it is time for Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to start educating their members on 21st century cattle production techniques that will serve as an alternative to to open grazing.

Dear esteemed readers, should the southern governors consider the reasons Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore gave on why there must not be ban on open grazing ?
