Mr. Chimaobi Sam Atu, the Labour Party candidate who won the Enugu North/South Federal Constituency seat, in the House of Representatives, was quoted as saying to a Punch correspondent, "I will never leave the Labour Party for another party." This news was published online by the Punch Newspaper this morning.

He was told during the interview that some Labour Party election winners would defect to the more powerful All Progressives Congress or Peoples Democratic Party, but he firmly stated that he himself would not be among them.
His words were, "Having been elected on a Labour Party platform, I feel no desire to defect from my electoral success. Instead, I'll put in more time and energy to fix any problems the party may have so that more people can believe that a better Nigeria is within reach."
Continuing, he stated "That won't happen if people keep switching political parties. We insist on being Nigeria's political party's new face, and we won't budge from that position. Because of this, I have no intention of ever switching political affiliations."
