The name Halima Babangida struck a chord in the National space in the late 80's and early 90's. She is the last child of the former military president of Nigeria: Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and the late First Lady Mrs. Maryam Babangida. Born at First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos. She was named after her maternal grandmother, the late Hajiya Asabe Halima Muhammad King.

She was born at the time when her father was holding the reins of power in Nigeria. Born in 1989, her birth was celebrated with pomp and pageantry. It was highly publicised by the Nigerian Television Authority and leading Newspapers of that time. She was Nigeria's Most Famous Baby of that period.

Christened Halimatu Sa'adiya Babangida, she was the cynosure of all eyes and the rave of the moment. Interestingly, Nigerians also had a part in the christening, as she was given several names. The prominent ones were ' Better Life Baby', a pseudo-name which originated from her mother's pet project known as 'Better Life For Rural Women'. Some christened her Sapirat because of the Structural Adjustment Program initiated by her father.

Her wedding which took place about three years ago, was graced by the high and mighty including former president Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar and wife, Bukola Saraki, Yakubu Dogara and a host of other notable personalities.

Sadly, her mum was not alive to witness the wedding ceremony of the ' Presidential Baby', as she was snatched away by the cold hands of death at the University of California Johnson Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles on the 27th of December, 2009.

Halima is a cool, calm and calculated young lady, who is averse to publicity. She tries as much as possible to ward off public scrutiny.

Halima lives a tranquil life with her husband, a one-time Governorship Aspirant of Gombe State: Alhaji Auwal Lawal son of the Sarkin Sudan of Gombe. She got married to the wealthy business man, as the third wife on the 12th of May, 2017.
