Magu's Scandal vs Nigeria's Image: The Way Forward

No more a rumor of the recent moratorium case of the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu who was suspended on the 7th July 2020 by President Mohammadu Buhari.

Mr. Ibrahim Magu was charged with allegations of corruption and money laundering according to investigations pull-out by the Presidential Investigation Panel.

While news of his suspension is being given prominence by most news sites and gossip by most individuals, different opinions, commentaries and suggestions have since been emanating from different angles. I have taken my time to observe the issue and my infallible instinct have spoken thousands of words in my mind which I am going to express in this article.

Without overstating, transparency and accountability have no time be recorded in Nigeria. We are so blessed with corrupt leaders which at every end will be blamed for one thing or the other. It is an absurdity for a luminary who is worth venerated by position to be charged with alleged criminal offenses. What roles are our leaders setting up for the coming generations?

I'm not only talking about Mr. Ibrahim Magu, but also other political thieves and corrupt appointees who are joining the mass to insult and rain abuses on their fellow 'thief'. What a disgrace on Nigeria Government!

The EFCC chairman who is supposed to be saddled with the responsibility to apprehend criminals is incriminated of corruption and money laundering. There is a need to revamp Nigeria images which has been stained with corrupt practices.

Although, my research have proven that the criminals in Nigeria are more than the country itself. You know why? You have to be a criminal to attain political position or have an influential connection in Nigeria (bitter truth). Political appointments are requites given back to faithful sycophants and up-coming criminals to show appreciation by political leaders.

Nonetheless, just tell me why Nigerian youths won't do internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo. Nigeria leaders have always been at the verge of encouraging these youths through their bad leadership traits. This act of cupidity in them is manifesting different kinds of act placing a shame on our Green White Green.

There is a need to rejuvenate Nigeria, there is a need for proper check-mating of every leader to foster good government, there is a need to stop bad godfatherism in politics which in turn is controlling the politician in power, there is a need for peace to reign in every ethnic group, there is a need to fight against corruption and save our country from the hands of political monsters trying to destroy the labours of our heroes past.

I wish all these can be done, but remember I said, “The criminals we have in Nigeria are more than Nigeria.”

Rephrasing the words of Great Martin Luther's Jr.;

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day Nigeria will enjoy a good government of accountability and transparency.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day the less privilege will be free from the heat of injustice and oppression from the rich.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day our graduates will get employed after school.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day we will be able to express our mind without coloration of hate speech from the government.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day the lost glory of our land shall be returned to us.
