2023: Why Tinubu Will Face A Setback If APC Fails To Produce A Northern Christian As Running Mate

Muhammadu Buhari became president of Nigeria in 2015 and after his first four years in office, he was re-elected as president for yet another four years in 2019. Buhari's second tenure will soon come to an end and by this time in 2023, we would be having another person occupying the seat of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

One of the major candidates who has been tipped to replace Buhari as president is Bola Tinubu, the current National leader of the All Progressive Congress.

Though Bola Tinubu might have the support of the political elites in APC, he will face a major setback if APC fails to produce a Christian Northerner as a running mate for him.

Any move to invoke the contemplation of a Muslim/Muslim ticket come 2023 will not only be greeted with outright rejection but APC will lose woefully at the polls.

Nigeria is a nation that is unique for it's religious diversity and it is one of the major factor that must not be ignored. We've faced a lot of religious challenges in the past few years as a country, and the forthcoming 2023 elections will provide a better opportunity to build and improve on our religious differences as a nation.

Now it has become clear that Bola Tinubu might eventually contest for president under the platform of the All Progressive Congress; the party would be forced to look for a Northern candidate who must be a Christian in respect of the Nation's religious diversity.

Any plan to do otherwise, APC will be playing with their chances. Most importantly, for the purpose of peaceful coexistence and National cohesion, APC must look for a Northern candidate who is also a Christian as a running mate for Tinubu.
