The Strong Message Oshiomhole Sent To Wike, PDP And Obaseki When He Returned To Edo State (Opinion)

The political battle in Edo as to who governs the state for the next four years is on. The September 19 Governorship election is just 2 months from now and all the political parties involved are all crossing their T's and dotting their I's. 15 political parties are expected to take part in that election. But there are just two political parties in Edo State to watch as far as this Governorship election is concerned. The People's Democratic Party PDP and the All Progressive Congress APC. Interestingly they have candidates who challenged themselves four years ago. Godwin Obaseki who is now the candidate of the PDP was the candidate of the APC. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is now the candidate of the APC was the candidate of the PDP then. Both parties have set their campaign councils. The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike is the head of PDP campaign council. Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Umaro Ganduje is the head of the APC campaign. Both are strong men in their zones. One man who has been missing in the picture is back. He has fully recovered from the political fever he suffered after his suspension as the National Chairman of APC was upheld by the Appeal Court. He has also put behind him the dissolution of the National Working Committee of APC by President Buhari despite the fact that his tenure has not ended. He is ever focused now to ensure that his party wins Edo Governorship election come September 19. He made a return to Edo State last night in what I will call the "Triumphant entry of Adams Oshiomhmole into Edo State' This is coming weeks after he took break to rediscover himself.

His fans trooped out to welcome him showing that they have been expecting him. From his statement yesterday " I'm Back And Ready For The Job" is a strong one. For me he has sent a strong message to National Campaign Council Chairman of the PDP, Nyesom Wike, the PDP itself and Godwin Obaseki the PDP candidate.

I'm Popular In Edo

Some Nigerians will remember the action of Obaseki by renaming a street named after Oshiomhole to Saraki few hours after he defected to the PDP. Oshiomhole has returned to demonstrate to Obaseki that the only thing he is after now is to ensure that Ize-Iyamu wins the election, and other things will take care of themselves. 

Despite Your Defection The People Are Still With Me

I was surprised to see the crowd that came to welcome Oshiomhole despite the fact that he has not been in the state for a while and also that some of his political structures have collapsed. This is a sign that Oshiomhole is a grassroot politician. 

I Defeated PDP Before And I Will Do It Again

Oshiomhole said yesterday that he has come back to join the people to return the state on the path of sustainable development. Nigerians can't forget easily how Oshiomhole took the state from the PDP in 2008 without the support of any political godfather. Will he repeat it this time by ensuring that Obaseki is defeated is what time will tell. 

The PDP and Obaseki I believe will be monitoring events as Oshobaba as he is fondly called has returned to his state to once again demonstrate that he is very calculative in politics. Nigerians are watching to see how Oshiomhole will turn things around and lead his party to victory come September 19.
