The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to “disclose details of the measures your government is taking to immediately and effectively obey the Supreme Court decision extending the validity of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, and directing the Central Bank of Nigeria to continue to receive the notes from Nigerians.”

SERAP urged Buhari “to publicly instruct the CBN to immediately and effectively implement the Supreme Court decision ordering an end to the cash withdrawal limits imposed by banks because such restrictions violate citizens’ right to freely use their property.”

SERAP also urged the President “to disclose the measures that your government is taking to direct the CBN to immediately re-circulate the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, as ordered by the Supreme Court.”

In the letter dated March 4, 2023 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said there was an overriding public interest in disclosing the details of the measures the government and the CBN were taking to effectively and satisfactorily obey the Supreme Court decision.

Achieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Osita Okechuhwu has told the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to honourably retire from active politics now.

He also asked the former Vice President to stop making false claims about the February 25 presidential poll.

Okechukwu regretted that Atiku glossed over the obvious fact that his desperation and crass opportunism led to PDP’s defeat only to blame Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party.

Atiku, while addressing reporters in Abuja last Friday, stated that Obi’s movement to Labour Party took PDP’s votes in Southeast and South-south.

Reacting to the development while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Okechukwu, who is also the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON),w said Atiku allowed his entitlement mentality to becloud his sense of judgment.

Traditional rulers in the 62 communities in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State have assured Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of re-election ahead of the March 11 governorship election.

Speaking during a news conference at Ikota, the Chairman of Eti-Osa Baale Forum, Chief Wasiu Ali-Balogun, said that Sanwo-Olu had been fulfilling his promises to residents of Lagos State, hence, their support for his re-election.

Ali-Balogun said that there were lots of irregularities during the February 25 presidential election, adding that security would be beefed up to ensure safety during the governorship election.

He, therefore, urged residents of Eti-Osa to put behind the outcome of the presidential election and come out en masse to vote the All Progressives Congress candidates in the forthcoming polls.

Our incumbent governor is the governor of all the people, anointed governor, reliable and responsible, hardworking, a listening governor. We are solidly behind the governor, the present administration up to the federal level.
