BVN Has No Expiry Date - CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has clarified that the Bank Verification Number, BVN, has no expiry date. CBN’s spokesman, Dr Isa AbdulMumin, clarified a statement last night. He was reacting to media reports that the BVN expires after 10 years.

He said: “The attention of the CBN has been drawn to reports suggesting that the BVN issued by the bank in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS, expires after ten years. Contrary to these claims, we wish to clarify that the BVN issued in Nigeria has no expiry date”.

Following the unanimous Supreme Court verdict that reaffirmed his election, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has stated that he has forgiven all those who might have offended him during his struggle to assume the leadership of the state.

He stated this while on a thank you visit to the palaces of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun; and Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, after the Supreme Court judgment on Tuesday.

Lagos Arraigns Eze Ndigbo On Terrorism Charges

Lagos State government, yesterday, arraigned Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, Frederick Nkemdilim Nwajagu, before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of a Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), for alleged terrorism. The defendant was arraigned on nine-count charges bordering on an attempt to commit acts of terrorism, participate in terrorism, meet to support a proscribed entity, attempt to finance an act of terrorism, and prepare to commit an act of terrorism.

According to a suit marked no: LD/21505C/2023, his offences contravene the provision of section 403(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and sections 12(c), 18, 21, 29 & 12(a) of the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022, among others. The state’s counsel, Deputy Director in the Ministry of Justice, Jonathan Ogunsanya, who represented the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, informed the court to allow the defendant to take his plea.

FEC Approves Fresh N129bn For Ogoni Cleanup

The Federal Economic Council on Wednesday, in Abuja, approved the sum of N129.8bn for various projects in the Ministry of Niger Delta, particularly the mandate of the United Nations Environment Programme on Ogoni cleanup.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this to journalists after the Council’s over seven-hour meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, Abuja.

He said the money would cater for the second phase of the Ogoni water project and the central remediation of newly-identified hydrocarbon-impacted sites.
