Opinion: Why PDP, APC Are Trading Words Over Justice Odili’s House Invasion

It is not a news that the people democratic party and the all progressive congress always tackle each other on topical issues happening in the country. We have had several war of words between both parties but the most recent one which has to do with the invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s house seems to be taking a more serious turn as some PDP governors have laid allegations against the ruling party regarding the development.

The people Democratic Party had alleged that the raid is APC’s plan to hijack the upcoming 2023 presidential election though the APC is yet to make official statements about it but some key individuals in President Buhari’s administration have had to make statements about the allegations.

One would start to wonder why the invasion is causing so much fracas between the parties because Justice Odili isn’t a politician but a judge who is neutral and was never involved in politics. However, taking a look at Justice Mary Odili’s journey in the Nigerian judiciary, she happens to be PDP’s favorite person due to her marriage. Justice Mary Odili got married to Peter Odili, a former governor of Rivers state who is a PDP chieftain in 1952. As a wife to a politician of that calibre, it is normal for her to be loved by the party and any attempt to intimidate her will surely get attention from the party.

Also, Justice Mary Odili is the next in line to be the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) after Justice Mohammed Tanko. The PDP alleged that the ruling party is trying to frustrate every plan to ensure she emerges because the party feels her tenure will not favour them therefore, the need to find something against her. Of a truth, her emergence as the chief justice of Nigeria will favour PDP more because of her husband and this is why the PDP is guiding against any form of intimidation that may not allow her get to the position.
