A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has stated that the pledge made by the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to lift 10 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years “is not attainable”.
Peters said this on Monday while speaking on Arise TV show.
Recall that during his Independence Day speech, Buhari affirmed the pledge by his administration to lift 10 million Nigerians out of poverty.
But in his words, Peter Obi said “The plan of this administration to pull 10 million people out of poverty annually is not attainable. In six years, they have drawn more people into poverty."
The vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also blamed the federal government for ‘worsening poverty rate’ in the country.
Peter Obi added that the state of the economy, which is characterized by inflation and rising unemployment figure will make it more difficult for the Buhari-led administration.
