Tight security was beefed up this morning at the National Assembly, Abuja, probably to ensure law and order within the premises. This is as a result of the power tussle between the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, over the retirement age of workers of the National Assembly.
A Contradictory statement was released on Wednesday, reviewing the retirement age from 60 or 35, to 65 or 40 years in service.
According to THISDAY, the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and armed policemen stationed at the two entrances to the Assembly were drafted there to ensure that the workers are protected in the course of going about their duties.
The news has it that, lot of people were recently retired and sacked by the National Assembly Commission. This has caused a lot of tension within the premises, and the need for additional armed security operatives to be drafted to the National Assembly, to ensure that nobody takes the law into his hands.
