According to reports we gathered from Sahara Reporters, the apex socio-political Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has in a statement, reacted to the decision of the Northern Governors Forum to reject the demands for a Southern Presidency in 2023.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the secretary-general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stated that the North's insistence on seceding President Muhammadu Buhari with a northerner will weaken the unity and stability of Nigeria in 2023, and will also favor the declarations of Biafra and Oduduwa nations by 2024.
According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, if a northerner emerges as Nigeria's next President in 2023, he/she might not be able to govern Nigeria because of challenges that will arise from secessionist agitations, who at this time, will have the support of ethnic groups.

To summarise its statement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo said in clear terms, that it may join the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, to declare for the restoration of Biafra, if their 2023 Igbo presidency is not achieved.
In my opinion, the statement by Ohanaeze Ndigbo that it may join IPOB in declaring Biafra restoration if their demands for the presidency are not met in 2023, is a threat to the continued and peaceful existence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is on this note that as a matter of urgency, the federal government of Nigeria puts a call across to them, and brings them to order.

Taking into consideration the fact that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a respectable Igbo group that can influence a majority of the Igbos with its decision, their threat to join IPOB in their Biafran agitation is worrisome and is not in the interest of Nigeria's peace and unity.
The federal government should, therefore, do all it can in its capacity, to not only call Ohanaeze Ndigbo to order, but also explore ways it can peacefully reach a compromise with the group on their demands for the 2023 presidency.
