OPINION: Why Rejection Of APC By Deputy Governor's Aides Confirms Anambra As APGA Stronghold

The Anambra governorship elections coming up on the 6th of November is perhaps, one of the most discussed elections owing to the characters involved and the drama currently playing out in the state.

Recall a few days ago, the state deputy governor, Dr Nkem Okeke caused some confusion in the party hierarchy in the state by defecting from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to the All progressives Congress, APC.

All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA has been the dominant party for a while in the state and this defection had shaken the party as it was envisaged at some point, that Okeke's defection would also take some of its members way.

In a rather shocking move, the deputy Governor's senior aides have rejected the All progressives Congress by refusing to join their Boss.

While reiterating their loyalty to the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, the aides revealed that they were shocked over the defection of their boss, adding that they only heard of it on social media.

The aides consist of Senior Special Assistant on General Duties, Dr. Charles Nwufo, Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Stella Igboka, Special Assistants on Legal, Barrister Bath Okafor and Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, Captain Chizor Obierika.

What this development means for APGA is that the party is still very much in the race as the rejection by Okeke's aides has shown that the party is deeply rooted in the state and also, that Anambra People have chosen their side.

Recall the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke was accused of defecting to the APC because he was denied the party's governorship ticket.

The national leadership of the party - APGA, also added that his defection was of no consequence to the party.

The recent announcement by his aides has confirmed that the deputy governor may have little electoral value and had posed no threat to the All progressives grand alliance, APGA in the state.
