Edo stray bullet victim’s mother demands N50m compensation, boy’s genital damaged
Omogui, who made the demand at the Edo State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for victims of SARS and related abuses, said her son was running an errand when the bullet from the gun of one of the policemen who were dispersing the hoodlums, who took over the protest, hit him.
She said her son was treated and discharged from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and that she had been spending her little resources on him to keep him alive.
According to her, “Osasu can only pass out urine through a fixed pipe on his abdomen and a situation that has forced him to always be on wrappers, while the condition has also stopped him from going to school.”
The ailing Osasu said he would like to be a medical doctor when he grows up.
“I want to be a medical doctor when I grow up. The government and well meaning individual should help me,” he pleaded.
Chairman, Judicial Panel of Inquiry, Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe (retd.), said serious attention must be paid to the child’s condition.

The Federal Government has stated arrangements are ongoing to replace the Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

Suarez breaks Ronaldo record as stunning start at Atletico Madrid continues
Luis Suarez's excellent start to life at Atletico Madrid continued on Monday night as he broke a record set by Cristiano Ronaldo with his goals against Celta.
The Uruguay international struck on the stroke of half-time at the Wanda Metropolitano to pull Atletico level with the visitors, who went ahead through a Santi Mina goal just 13 minutes into the match. The 34-year-old struck again early in the second half to give the home team the lead and put them on course to extend their lead at the top of La Liga.
Suarez breaks La Liga record
The goals take Suarez's goal tally for Diego Simeone's men up to 16 in just 17 La Liga appearances since making the switch from Barcelona last summer. The former Ajax and Liverpool star is the first player to score 16 goals in his first 17 games for a team in the Spanish top-flight in the 21st century.
The previous best of 15 goals in the same number of matches was set by Cristiano Ronaldo during his stunning start to his successful spell at Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009.
Oil prices hit 11-month high, trading at $61 a barrel
Oil prices hit their highest level in 13 months at Tuesday’s trading session, as supply cuts by OPEC+ boosted market confidence across global energy markets.
What you must know At the time of drafting this report, Brent crude gained 0.5%, to trade at $60.85 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) for March was at $58.25 a barrel, up 0.5%.
Both major oil benchmarks are at their highest since January 2020.
Additional supply reductions by leading oil player, Saudi Arabia, in the month of February and March, coupled with cuts by OPEC+ helped tighten supplies, thereby balancing crude oil demand/supply.
Stephen Innes, Chief Global Market Strategist at Axi, in a note to Nairametrics, spoke on prevailing macros pushing oil prices above $60 a barrel.
Biden Threatens Financial, Visa Sanctions Against Nigeria, Others Over Anti-gay Laws
President Joe Biden has issued a presidential memorandum aimed at expanding protection of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people worldwide, including potentially through the use of financial sanctions.
Nigeria's anti-gay laws have been increasingly criticised by global rights groups, which have categorised the country as overtly homophobic.
Despite international pressure, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act in January 2014, prescribing between 10 to 14 years in prison for cohabitation between same-sex sexual partners, public show of same-sex relationship, registration, operation or participation in gay clubs, societies and organisation, amongst others.
As a predominantly conservative country, it is unlikely that Nigeria would revisit its anti-gay marriage law to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States.
However, the Biden Presidency threatens" "swift and meaningful" responses, including financial sanctions against countries found guilty of human rights abuses of LGBTQI+ persons.
