Fashola governed Lagos State between 2007 and 2015 and effected a lot of changes in the state. He had earlier served in Bola Tinubu's administration before he emerged as governor in 2007.
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Fashola as a minister in 2015, with responsibility for three powerful ministries (power, works, and housing). It was later reduced to two when he was reappointed in 2019.
The 2023 general election is fast approaching, and politicians have started unofficial campaigns by forming alliances across the country.
Babatunde Fashola seems to be silent about his 2023 ambition. It is not clear if the former governor is interested in contesting for any position in 2023.
However, there are some positions Fashola is eminently qualified for after Buhari's tenure ends in 2023. They include:
1. If the All Progressive Congress zones its presidential ticket to South West in 2023, Babatunde Fashola will be one of the top contenders for the position.
The senior lawyer can also be the Vice President if the presidential ticket goes to the north in 2023.
2. Fashola also qualified to be the Minister for Justice and Attorney General of the Federation if APC win the presidency in 2023. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Fashola will perform better in the position.
3. In 2023, Fashola will qualify to become a senator representing Lagos State in the National Assembly.
4. The former governor can also become an ambassador representing Nigeria in one of the top European or American countries after Buhari's administration elapses in 2023.
