A well known Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, has taken out his time to criticize Nigerian politicians who often disrespect the constitution of the country.
While speaking, Mr Okutepa demanded to know how Nigerians expect those who breached the constitution of the country on their road to power, to respect the same constitution the breached with impunity.
He went on and stated it clearly that Nigeria cannot develop until there are consequences for misconduct. He also noted that as long as those who put us where we are are today are not punished according to the law of the land, the next generation will continue to emulate and copy examples of yesteryears.
Mr Okutepa made this disclosure in a tweet he made on his twitter handle, noting that those whose tomorrow are being destroyed are joining hands with those destroying their tomorrow to destroy Nigeria.
On several occasions, Nigerian politicians, most especially those in power have refused to obey court orders and constitution. Just of recent, it was reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refused to obey court order, by not allowing the Labour Party to inspect the materials used during the just concluded presidential election. We must learn how to do the right thing, so as to move the country forward.
