The United States of America's mission to Nigeria has lent his voice to the #EndSARS memorial protests across the country, urging demonstrators to adopt a political approach to express their grievances, Vanguard News has learnt.
This statement was posted on the mission's official Facebook handle on Wednesday.
''We are reflecting on the loss of lives and property which characterized last year's #EndSARS protests. We appreciate the efforts of various judicial panels instituted by the government to investigate the circumstances leading to the protest and ascertain the level of damage occasioned by the development. W
''We look forward to the implementation of recommendations and compensation to victims of police brutality.
''We are in support of the ongoing police reform efforts. We advise protesters clamouring for change to engage the government politically to achieve it,'' the statement read.
On the back of support from prominent celebrities across the world, thousands of demonstrators, mostly youths, took to the streets to protest police brutality in a rarest fashion.
However, the memories of the incident, particularly the destruction of property and government facilities and those who paid with their lives, have continued to linger in the minds of many Nigerians.
